We evaluate every upgrade against the build sequence that the RC crawling community has validated over thousands of trail sessions: tires first, ESC second, shocks third, servo fourth, then electronics and scale accessories in order of impact per dollar.
Who reviews these picks
CrawlKin Editorial, RC crawler builders and trail reviewers
The CrawlKin team are hands-on RC trail and competition crawlers who have built and upgraded Axial SCX10, Traxxas TRX-4, Axial SCX24, and Redcat Gen8 platforms. We write for builders who know the difference between G8 and Predator compound, not for spectators.
What we score on
Every pick is judged on the same criteria. We weight them by what actually matters for the way you will use the gear, then write up the tradeoffs honestly.
Platform fitment
Does the product name the exact platform it fits? Vague "for most crawlers" claims are flagged.
Compound specificity
Tires are named by size and compound designation, not by generic description.
Upgrade order value
Every pick is placed in the community upgrade sequence so buyers know what to do first.
Value accuracy
Street price checked at Amazon US at the time of review. Placeholders are flagged.
Honest cons
Every product lists at least two real drawbacks. No product is flawless.
Independence
No manufacturer pays for placement. Top Pick = editorial best, not highest commission.
How our picks work
Each category roundup is ranked by our editorial score. The highest-scored option carries the Top Pick badge. Separately, the option that delivers the most for the money carries the Best Value badge. They are often different products on purpose: the best-scored is not always the smartest buy for most people, and we tell you which is which.
What we never do
